Training-cum-project review workshop, Bangladesh component

Drs Bantilan and Kiresur with fishermen.

A training-cum-project review workshop of the Bangladesh component of the project was organized by RP-MIP, ICRISAT, during 7-9 May 2010 at Socioconsult, Dhaka, Bangladesh. A visit to Nishaiganj village of Mymensingh district, one of the 12 villages selected to implement the project in Bangladesh, revealed a major shift from rice cultivation to fish farming, an example of the fluidity of village dynamics. Following an overview of the project by Dr MCS Bantilan to the VDSA Bangladesh team, the project was reviewed and Alamgir Chowdhury (Socioconsult) and UK Deb made presentations of the first year’s achievements. The Bangladesh team of field investigators, programmers and data entry operators were trained on quantitative methodologies for village/household surveys and meso/macro data collection and given guidance on the use of qualitative tools for data collection.
